JOE ICONIS
is a Long Island native and a grad of the great NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theater
Writing Program. He is the proud recipient of a 2007 Ed Kleban Award, a 2006 Jonathan Larson Award, a Backstage Bistro Award, and
a 1992 Garden City Elementary School Vocal Music Award. Joe proudly rips off from The Ramones, Dolly Parton,
Weezer, The Rolling Stones, and many of his other idols. He is greatly inspired
by Robert Altman movies, Dunkin Donuts coffee, and the visciously talented gang
of actors/singers/musicians he frequently surrounds himself with.
Joe
is currently involved in the development of several musicals. The biggie is
“THE BLACK SUITS” (Music and lyrics by Joe, Book by Joe and Robert
Maddock). A rock musical about high school garage band. Other projects include:
"THE PLANT THAT ATE DIRTY SOCKS" for Theatreworks USA (Music, Lyrics, and Book by Joe; opening at the Lucille Lortel July 2008, directed by John Simpkins); "THINGS TO RUIN" (A theatrical rock concert of Joe's songs; seen at Ars Nova and Joe's Pub, Directed by John Simpkins); "A JOE ICONIS MINI-MUSICAL TRIPLE FEATURE" (Ars Nova, Directed by John Simpkins); “PLASTIC! The Musical” (Music by Joe and Reza Jacobs, Book by Robert
Maddock). A geek-pop musical about a man with one arm. Recipient of a 2006 Daryl
Roth Award; "TRIUMPHANT BABY!" (Music by Joe, Lyrics by Robert Maddock, Starring Lorinda Lisitza, seen at the Metropolitan Room and the York Theatre, directed by Brad Oscar). Winner of a Back Stage Bistro and a Nightlife Award.
Joe is in a band called The Big Galoots. He loves this band very much and thinks you will, as well. Joe is also in a two person musical collective called "Rock Owl."
Upcoming projects that Joe is working on include a celebratory musical about death, a musical about a guy named Hunter, and a musical version of "JURASSIC PARK," which will open on Broadway, Halloween 2009.
